Habitat: From ground in mixed deciduous (oak, red maple, birch) and conifer (hemlock, pine) forest. Cap: 6.5 cm, nearly flat, light brown, with sturdy gray scales, edge deeply striate. Gills: Creamy white, close, free. Stipe: 11 cm long by 1 cm at base, tapering to 8 mm at apex. White to buff, with darker brownish fibrils. No annulus; remnants of volva at the base gray.
