A NJMA Foray collection (I did't collect it); preserved for RET. Growing in mixed deciduous woods dominated by oaks, beech, hickory and maples. This entity is characterized by a disproportionately long stipe (16.5 cm) relative to the width of cap (>3.0<3.5 cm). The cap is dark caramel-brown to medium chocolate brown, lacking yellowish tones. The white stipe had some brownish stains; not sure if these are natural or due to color transfer from other mushrooms. The white volva is a thin tubular sock of ~4 cm in length; it's wrapped so tightly around the stipe, rendering it almost invisible.
