Apparently there were two collections of this mushroom -- one came from this location and the other was collected from Thompson Park in Monroe Township (just south of Jamesburg) that were both IDed as A. canescens (sect. Lepidella) by me. I don't know where this one came from and what I was thinking when I identified it as canescens at the foray postmortem. Now, looking at the pix it looks like a pale A. submaculata (sect. Validae). Black fibers on the stipe is a feature consistent with the latter in my experience; canescens has white fibers that turn orange due to handling. I am afraid these were not saved. Further input by Dr. T and others well-versed in eastern Amanitas is certainly welcome.
