ITS blast results show these to be in the SW Clade of the Fomitopsis pinicola complex as defined by Haight 2013 which confirmed the existence of 4 species well-supported by multi-locus phylogenetic analysis: F. pinicola, restricted to Eurasia; F. ochracea, restricted to NA; and two previously undescribed NA species from NA--NAA from northern NA and SW Clade from southwestern NA. However, the study was unable to rule out the possibility of a subclade in the SW Clade: "This study contains insufficient data to determine the validity of the subclade within the Southwest Clade in the coalescent species tree. More data should be collected from specimens in this geographic region to help answer this question." There appear to be SNP's in at least 4 positions of this portion of the gene which account for most of the differences between the various AZ collections (1 fixed difference in 2 cases): MO 274489 (doug. fir), 272531 (aspen), 287443 (pond. pine), 272532 (conifer), 274487 (aspen), 287444 (conifer). Reverse sequence would confirm. PS Issues state above are resolved in Haight et al. 2019.
