Growing in soil among deep hardwood duff and leaf litter in a swamp forest at the edge of a sphagnum bog. Beyond this was a (second growth?) hardwood forest containing many very large Quercus alba. Nearby trees were Acer sacchariferum, Acer rubrum, Fraxinus sp and Alnus serrulata. Quercus spp. and probably other hardwoods further away. Odor not distinctive. Taste farinose and very slightly acrid. Spore print white. Spores hyaline, inamyloid and smooth. Many spores remaining in clumps in Melzer's reagent. Clumps containing between 3 and 7 spores but most were made up of 4 spores. Clamp connections present in the pileipellis. Hyphae not encrusted. Spore measurements from Piximetre: (4.4) 4.7 - 5.8 (6.3) Ã- (2.3) 2.4 - 3.1 (3.4) µm, Q = (1.6) 1.7 - 2.1 (2.2) ; N = 21, Me = 5.2 Ã- 2.8 µm ; Qe = 1.9
