Habitat: mixed conifer woods (pines, Douglas-fir, Incense Cedar) Cap appearance variable, with margins developing striations. Pileus color red to purplish-rosy, creamy off-white to dull pale yellow at center, the paler area varying in size and shape. Stipe clean white. Gill forking occasional, becoming light yellow to light brownish yellow. Cap peeling easily, almost to halfway to center. Spores pale ochre-yellow/light straw-color, 7-8x8-9 micros, round and usually with a protuberance. Warts isolated, of medium density, and relatively even spacing. Scent weak, sweet and "warm", sort of like gingerbread cookies Taste peppery, but not burning hot, and calming down after the first few seconds.
