Buttons starting out a light gray, then gray-brown and then straw-colored to pale ochre-buff. Always pretty light, though the strong sun may make it appear a bit paler in the picture. Pruinose silky white bloom evident on cap fibers and a (pruinose?) thin white margin, eventually coming off revealing more light-brown area. Smell weak. Near the base of a log in mixed conifer forest. Stipe thick for the size of the cap, shiny and white, with appressed pale fibrils, swollen toward the base (more or less club-shaped) with tiny white fuzzy hairs at base (see picture). Spores a medium dark brown, rounded, 9-11 x 4.5-6.5
