Growing scattered and sometimes in small clusters of 2 or 3, sometimes barely emerging from soil. Underneath oak, in damp soil/moss. Cap dry, dingy and spotted, straw yellow. Gills whitish/buff/yellowish, adnate to slightly decurrent. Generally close, sometimes forking near stipe or midway to margin. Color slightly lighter than pileus, fringed near margin with a few shorter lamellae present. Stipe white becoming yellowish/brown, tapered towards base. Odor mild. Taste very acrid/hot. Spore deposit white/cream.
