Found in mixed woods, predominantly hemlock/beech, buried deeply in sandy soil along a path. Tallest specimen ~18 cm in height, with a silver/grey cap. Rounded ovate cap appears to have radial lines, somewhat shiny. Crowded cream-colored gills under a persistent white membranous veil. (Veil never dropped in these specimens). Stipe shiny white with some pale reddish fibrils, large friable white volva at base breaking quickly into small pieces upon excavation. Stipe slightly more narrow at apex while widening towards a thick, somewhat pointed base. Stipe solid, stuffed with white material. Unpleasant, vaguely chlorine-like odor.
