These Bovista plumbea mushrooms were found in the Pacific Northwest in Pullman, Washington in a grassy field. They are there year round, and can be recognized as "brown, spore-filled mushrooms." When these mushrooms (shown in pictures) were collected, it was January 26, 2018. There was light snow, but the mushrooms were still on the ground. The mushrooms seem to appear most around Spring and Fall. There are still scattered ones around Summer and Winter, but fewer mushrooms than those in the other seasons. They are odorless and as far as we know, non-toxic. They have not been seen growing on trees, but on the ground.
