A single fruiting body growing in sandy soil in the shoulder of a dirt road. Young pitch pines and scrub oak in this area, which is pretty much the typical pine barrens habitat in terms of host trees. There was a slight odor, not of chlorine, and not overtly unpleasant. The stipe was deeply inserted (~40%) into the substrate. Extraction of the waterlogged stipe base was difficult owing to a short knife blade. While the fb incurred some damage in the process (as can be seen in the photos), most of the base was extracted. Sporocarp dimensions and spore measurements will be provided in due course.
