Abundant fruitings of honey mushrooms were evident throughout the park today(and in many following days throughout Western Washington). Usually this species fruits prolifically(as seen here) in early September and marks the beginning of mushroom hunting season(for me at least). Unusually warm temps(low 70's most days) in to mid/late October has pushed back flushes of expected species and made for a very slow start for mycorrhizal species such as Cantharellus and Amanita; and has even prompted a few common Spring season species to jump into action around the area(such as Suillus lakei, Pleurotus pulmonarius and Amanita pantherina-although they do occur in Fall months, they are flushing this season as if it were June or July here, currently). Showed harvested fruiting bodies in various stages of growth with this post for comparison and variation.
