Original observation #342342 (Mushroom Observer)
Found on a steep northeast facing slope that is irrigated and has received a lot of hemlock bark mulch over the years. Mature aspen and birch trees provide shade throughout the day. Found while raking leaves, essentially ripping up the entire 2 sq. ft. area they were growing. The mushrooms rolled downhill to my feet where I immediately noticed the white stems and blue bruising. They have a chestnut brown colored cap when fresh/young and a gelatinous pellicle. The stems are white and fibrous and bruise dark blue. The caps bruise blue-green and there are purple/brown spores left on the stems and caps of some mushrooms. Young specimens have inward turned cap margins. Found East of the Cascades at about 3800ft elevation.
