Multiple "pointed spatula"/spade tipped, black earth tongues. Not wavy knobbed or club shaped(as with Geoglossum nigritum which I've collected and photographed many times under Thuja plicata). Very large(for an earth tongue), largest in collection measured 11cm when fully stretched against ruler. Minutely hirsute(visible with 30 X 21mm jewelers loop). Spore printing on slides for microscopy later this week. Fruiting beneath Western red cedar and sparse Douglas fir in canopy. Posed fruiting bodies on Douglas fir cones for scale with in situ specimens. Flash images included. Collected 4 fruiting bodies for home herbarium collection, drying on slides for spore print and subsequent microscopy(images to be added). UPDATED ON 1/23/19: Performed microscopy after a day of drying fruiting bodies(placed spade shaped caps on a glass slide for spore print). As expected, very large paraphysis/setae are present on stems-images added at 10X and 40X magnification. Images of asci with ascospores at 10X, 40X and 4X magnification added in addition to stem setae analysis. Fifteen septa per ascus. Asci Very long. Bagged and labeled the collection with voucher number(included glass slide w/spore print for later use).
