Description: Original observation #360814 (Mushroom Observer)
Occurrence Remarks: Found by Sean Golden at Bluebonnet Swamp in Baton Rouge, LA on 3/1/19. Not sure if it is a fungus or slime mold or something else. I assume the "fungus?" began its attack while the insect was still alive? • Maybe just some spores landed on it? • Or could the insect could have been caught in some sticky goo? We think the insect was a moth (?). About 3/4 of an inches long. In a wet area not too far from the edge of a swamp. On a small stick a few feet above the ground. It has been suggested that it is: • An entomopathogenic fungus • Cordyceps • Akanthomyces sp
