By no means am I sure of this ID. I have vacillated back and forth since the day I found these hirsute, algae covered specimens fruiting along the bottom-side of a large, wet, decayed log in mixed woods. At first I thought Trichaptum biforme until I saw the daedaloid fertile surface that became toothy. Then I considered other species of Trichaptum but none seem to fit the host and/or habitat. Now I have settled tentatively on C. unicolor but am still confused by the hints of violet on various surfaces (or is it my imagination) and lack of gray I would expect on the pore surface; so … any help I can get with this ID will be MOST appreciated.
